I would like to see the paladin class (well technically, most to all classes) to be revamped and made new. The way I propose this is to remove all their spells as is. Instead, and I know this will sound like a D2 ripoff, but give them auras. Even before D2, though, I have always seen a paladin with an aura of some sort.

First, remove mount and riding from a paladin. They are foot soldiers of their faith. Give them a better selection of weapons in compensation. Remove that healing spell that wizards have from wizards and give it to at least paladins.

    Now, for auras:

These will be upkeep effects. For each second the aura is on, it will cost a bit of mana to hold.

Aura of protection - This allows a paladin to boost the AC of their group as well as increase the effectiveness of the groups defenses by 5%. 20 mana per second.

Aura of tranquility - A constant affect of calm to the paladin's group while this aura is in place. Unlike the calm spell, though, this does not give a negative to damage roll or hit roll. 25 mana per second.

Aura of divinity - This aura grants a blessedness to the paladin's group, allowing for a higher chance to hit while in battle. 15 mana per second.

Aura of wrath - This aura makes the paladin look more fiercesome as the anger of their god fills them. This causes the paladins' foes to tremble in fear, making it less likely they will flee. 20 mana per second.

I had more, but I think the general idea is gotten and I forgot the others.

      Hi all,

I think I'll agree with ith here that paladins need a bit of a boost. It's just that with multiclassing their spells don't give too much of an advantage at a later level, only during the first classes, and who wants to stay 1st class forever?

I do really like the idea of paladins having some magical power though, as in the auras, as long as that power is spiritual (channeled from the gods) as opposed to channeled from within (like mages do).

I'd also agree with them not being mounted too. Paladins always seemed more like foot soldiers to me; crusaders are much more the mounted class.

The aura suggestions sounds like a really cool start, I just wouldn't want to jack it straight from D2 8). I never used them that much in that game though, just charged everything to death. But it's an awesome idea. We'd just have to make sure they don't overlap with other subclasses abilities, ie they'd have to be new and not just adaptations of spells we already have.

I'd really like to adapt the idea to the sentience universe somehow. We'll have to give it some thought. This is a good start!

This reminds me of Prayers from Runescape. You had a set of prayer points, like mana, that could be used in maintaining a variety of prayers you choose to invoke.
