Nibs and I got to talking, and I came up with this thought:

What if a player got to choose a favored weapon?

As a noob, a player gets to choose which weapon they would want to start out with. I propose this:

Give the player an option to choose from every weapon type except exotic. That is the weapon they start with and the skill is automatically at 40% (reguardless if their class would give that skill to them).

Secondly, a player using a weapon of that type gets a bonus for using that type of weapon

–a -2ac per character level parrying bonus as long as they have the parry skill

--a +.25 hitroll bonus per character level as long as their main weapon is their favored weapon (not secondary)

--a +.15 damroll bonus per character level as long as their main weapon is their favored weapon (not secondary)

Of course, very rough idea. If anyone would like to comment or add their thoughts, please do :)

      Oh oh I choose flail!

Seriously, lets take a look at what weapons youd realisticly use atm. 1st class, lightning sword till 10, sword of plith till 20, acid blade until 30, veng at 40, greater vent 55, etc etc, pyro blade pretty much all of 3rd, etc etc, noticing a trend yet? Almost all of the good weapons are a sword. Theres little deviation, sure evil will use a two handed weapon different than a sword along the way if they went marauder, but how many use 2handed after remorting? (unless your a dragon or titan of course)

I do like the idea of choosing a preferred weapon but the weapon choices are scant and most of us would just pick sword. How about skipping the preferred weapon for a bit and make Piercing, bashing, slashing and exotic mean a little more?

I agree that the weapon choices in the game are lacking, heavily. people seem to prefer to build swords into the game rather than other weapons. i'd greatly like to see whips, flails, maces, spears, and quarterstaffs actually make the list of weapons people use when they're high level. right now it's dagger (blackened claw), sword (mishkal, zeus' lightning bolt, staugaard), axe (golden axe, withering axe), or polearm (ataraxia).

Xtrasp uses a spear. Granted one that is very limited available, but not a bad spear.

you mean one that has very limited availability. and yes, mortalsbane, from an area unopened at this current moment. Albeit i wish it were open, at least I'd have SOMETHING to explore.

However, even then it's only good if you're a ranger.

After a little more thought, how about if this idea is considered seriously, rather than starting the game with the option to get this bonus, we have a weapon trainer for each of the weapon types, including exotic and you have to do some kind of mission for the training. I.E. You would have to find a weapon, an amount of gold, pneuma, etc. and then defeat the mob with whatever weapon to achieve the training? And also allow the training to be reset if you do the mission with another mob in case you decide you dont like using the weapon? I'd like it if there was a specific mob for each of the weapon types so people had to learn a quest for each type also.

No conscious preference from the imms to swords, msut have just turned out that way by coincidence.

I have been building a workable DB of all the items. Soon we will do an overall survey of what weapons and types of equipment are lacking. Lukus is building some stuff so that people can request eq and have EQ brought into the game as it is needed.

I have to say i really like this idea. well…as long as there are adiquit amount of weapons. Personaly i like maces, only they kinda suck in pretty much all games. How about a counter point for each popular weapon, or how about a mob that can change a weapon that you have to another type of weapon with a different damage type. Like changing a vengence sword with slashing to a axe of vengance with cleaving.

                  Just a thought

As much as I would love to have more dr, I am still on a crusade about adding more into the game and diminishing what is already out there.

I am all for adding some new weapons into the game. It will make things more interesting, and make new combos for leveling, and just trying to make a stronger character. There is a very common armor/weapon choice that every one has. Just a thought.

I have an idea that might settle some arguments hopefully…. If we introduce favored weapons and the item maybe gives the correction on their vuln, depending, like for a lich, they get a sort if invuln to blunt or fire, which cancels out the vuln and they take regular damage. Of ocurse these items probable couldnt be too cheap, or changes to this idea could be made, but it's just a thought. Hopefully give someone an idea...

Although I don't see how this applies to favored weapons, I don't see why there isn't items to reduce vulnerabilities. I don't think it'd be to hard to add, but frankly I'd like to see the eq in the game have actual resistances to slash/bash/pirecing/exotic first.
